News Bulletin
"The Georgian Association organized two major demonstrations at the White House and in front of the Russian Embassy on Friday, August 15. There were about 800 protesters present. More than 200 Georgians, Ukrainians and other friends of Georgia traveled from New York and Philadelphia to participate in the demonstrations. The United States Congressman, Mr. Thaddeus G. McCotter joined us at the Russian Embassy to express his deep concern over Russia's actions, and to show his support to Georgia. The Representative shared with us his address to the House and Senate leaders, where he urges the U.S. Congress to sanction Russia, strengthen ties with central and eastern Europe, and to invite President Saakashvili to address the Joint Session of Congress.
Our good friends from Central and East European Coalition (CEEC), representatives of the American Latvian Association, the Joint Baltic-American National Committee, the American- Hungarian Federation, Moldovan Foundation, and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, participated in the demonstrations. Estonians, Azerbaijanis, Lithuanians, Vietnamese, representatives of Jewish communities, and many other friends of Georgia also took the stage to speak out in support of Georgians.
The President of the Georgian Association, Mr. Mamuka Tsereteli, stated that "the United States support of Georgia is predetermined by the U.S. strategic interests in the South Caucasus, and by the shared values of freedom and liberty."
