Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Georgian Association in the United States (GA), I urge you to help us continue strengthening the Georgian-American community and advancing our common interests in the United States. Your support will be most effective in the form of a tax-deductible monetary contribution that will support GA’s ongoing initiatives. Please consider donating funds to the Georgian Association before the end of this year.

As you know, established in 1932, the Georgian Association is the only nationwide membership organization in the United States that gives voice to the Georgian-American community and the Georgian issues in the U.S. Congress. The GA is a non-profit entity that welcomes everyone with ties to Georgia and does not charge a membership fee.

In 2010, the GA accomplished its mission of strengthening and supporting the Georgian-American community by advocating Georgian issues before the United States government, educating the general public about Georgia, and supporting relevant important activities. Our web site www.georgianassociation.org describes in detail events and activities hosted, sponsored and supported by the GA. Here is a short list of our significant accomplishments in 2010:

  1. GA representatives conducted several meetings with US government officials at the State Department, National Security Council, as well as the U.S. Congress, to discuss the most important issues related to strengthening Georgian statehood and security and developing Georgian democracy and a free market system;

  2. GA, in collaboration with St. Tamar’s Georgian Orthodox Church, launched a successful Georgian language school for the Georgian-American children of the Greater Washington, D.C. area;

  3. GA held an annual event on Capitol Hill celebrating Georgia’s Independence. At the event, the GA recognized the Co-Chair of the Congressional Georgia Caucus, Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D – PA) for her leadership and support of Georgia in the U.S. Congress;

  4. GA, together with the Central and East European Coalition (CEEC, coalition of 18 Diaspora organizations, representing 20 million Americans) co-hosted CEEC Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. Several Georgian-Americans from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland participated in 21 meetings with staff members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. At the meetings Georgian community representatives raised many important issues of common concern of Georgian–Americans such as: stability and security in Georgia; US Assistance to Georgia; prospects of de-occupation of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions etc.

  5. GA promoted and supported Georgia-related cultural events: concerts, exhibitions and other activities. In February 2010 GA co-sponsored a concert of a Georgian rising star, pianist David Aladashvili, at the Carnegie Hall in New York. Among others, GA also supported the recent tour of the Georgian folk group Zedashe to the Washington, DC area.

  6. GA actively supported the fundraising efforts of Georgian communities across the United States to raise funds for the development of Georgian churches and parishes. For instance, the GA recently contributed to and supported the first ever Georgian Fundraising Festival in the Washington, DC area to help raise funds for the construction of a Georgian church. The event attracted more than 500 participants.

The Georgian Association has ambitious plans for the future to support Georgian communities around the U.S. We would like to support Georgian language schools for Georgian-American children in every area of the Unite States with substantial concentrations of ethnic Georgian populations. We would like to promote and sponsor more cultural events and exhibitions, as its culture best represents Georgia. We plan to strengthen our efforts to educate the U.S. public and the government about Georgia and issues that are important for the country; and most importantly, we would like to educate the American public about the Russian occupation of Georgian territories, and about the violations of human rights in these territories, including religious and property rights.

In order to realize these plans, we need your support. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the Georgian Association using the attached form. Every gift counts regardless of its amount. Therefore, please contribute any sum you can. Your support will show your interest in strengthening the Georgian-American community and Georgia. Please encourage your family, friends and others to contact us to join our mail list, and to support us. If you have trouble opening the attachment, please send your tax-deductable donation to the Georgian Association by mail at 2300 M Street, NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC, 20037. Checks should be made payable to the Georgian Association in the United States of America, Inc.

On behalf of the Georgian Association, I would like to thank you for your support and wish you Happy Holidays!!!

Sincerely,

Mamuka Tsereteli President
